Con una mossa decisamente a sorpresa, Microsoft ha annunciato di aver acquisito Bethesda.
A dare la notizia è stato Phil Spencer attraverso il suo profilo Twitter, sottolineando come già in passato le collaborazioni siano state molto proficue. L'accordo, quanto pare, prevede l'acquisto di ZeniMax Media, la holding che possiede Bethesda Softworks, id Studios, Bethesda Game Studios, ZeniMax Online Studios, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, Roundhouse Studios, Arkane e Machine Studios. Tra le varie serie realizzate dai team di sviluppo citati non possono mancare dall'essere menzionate The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, DOOM, Quake, Prey, Dishonored, Wolfstein e Starfield. Secondo l'analista Jason Schreier l'operazione costerà circa 7,5 miliardi di dollari, e potrebbe portare al tanto atteso Fallout New Vegas 2 (Obsidian è già parte della scuderia Microsoft). Inoltre, al momento Microsoft sarebbe quindi publisher di due esclusive temporali PlayStation 5.
